Garage Door Motor Battery Replacement
Manually Release Liftmaster SL3000
Sebastian walks homeowners through the process of replacing their garage door battery backup. Transcript 00:00 [Music plays over scenes of R&S employees performing various tasks.] 00:08 Hi, I'm Sebastian with R&S. Did you know California has a new law - SB 969 - which is going to take effect on July 1st, 2019? 00:19 It'll require all residential garage door motors installed on any home have a battery backup on them. 00:27 If a door is replaced after July 1st, 2019 for any reason and your existing garage door is a non-battery motor, then you'll be required to replace that motor at that time and you'll have to replace it with a compliant battery backup motor. 00:44 R&S has all compliant battery backup motors in stock and ready to install. 00:51 With this new law for California residents, you'll need to change the batter as needed, and we can show you how. To do this, we have a five-step video. 01:01 This is what the battery looks like, and R&S does stock these. You'll need a new one to replace yours. So come to R&S, bring us your old battery and buy a new battery there. We'll dispose of the old battery for you at no cost. 01:15 Now, let's start replacing our battery. 01:18 First, you'll need a step stool or ladder to reach the plug. Always unplug your motor before you do anything like this. 01:26 Next, locate where your battery is. Underneath the light cover, you're going to see a small screw. 01:32 Holding onto the cover, unscrew that with a small Phillips screwdriver and remove the cover. 01:38 Now you'll see the battery with the two wires attached to the terminals. 01:43 Step three: Gently pull the battery out and remove the terminals wires. As you can see, there's a red and a black color terminal. These match the terminal wires. Gently pull the terminal wires from those terminals and set the old battery down to be properly disposed of at R&S. 02:01 Step four: Take your new battery and set it inside of the housing with the terminal facing out. Gently push the black wire onto the black terminal until snug, then do the same for the red wire. 02:13 Once snug, slide the battery all the way inside the housing and reattach the cover with the screw. 02:19 Finally, step five: Plug the motor back in and you are now complete. 02:25 It will take up to 24 hours for the battery to fully charge, and while it's charging, the green LED will be flashing. When fully charged, it's a steady green. 02:34 Oh, as a special note: whenever the motor is working on battery and not plugged in, it will beep like a smoke detector. 02:42 Hope this video helps you when you need to change your battery, and remember: bring the old battery into R&S and we'll dispose of it properly for you at no cost. 02:51 [R&S logo displays on a white background. Sebastian walks through the process of manually opening and closing a residential garage door. Transcript 00:00 [Music plays over scenes of R&S employees performing various tasks.] 00:08 Hi, I'm Sebastian, with R&S, and I'm here to help you learn to disengage your door so you can open it manually. 00:15 Here's what happens. You're in a hurry, and you got out and push the button to make the door go up by the motor, but, of course, it always happens this way: it won't do it. 00:25 We'll now show you how to disengage the motor from the door so you can open manually to get your car out and close the door to secure your belongings safely inside. 00:34 But first, let's make sure you don't have a broken spring on the door. 00:38 Look above the door and notice two or one large coiled items. 00:45 Please look down it from end to end, making sure there's not a gap in it, which could be up to two or three inches in length. 00:52 If you don't notice a break, proceed. If you do notice a break, call R&S for professional services because trying to change these by yourself can be extremely dangerous. 01:04 But if there is no break in your springs, then here's what you do to open your door. 01:10 Find the red cord that's attached and hanging down from the traveler on the motor. 01:15 Gently, but with some force, pull that cord straight down to release. You'll know it's released when you hear a sudden thumb. 01:24 Next, reach down and grab the handle at the bottom of the garage door, and slowly lift it up until your door has opened all the way. 01:34 Back your car out, and now you're ready to close the door. 01:37 Just pull down on the door, holding on to it completely, until it's fully closed. 01:44 Now we want to re-engage the traveler. You can push on the J arm to have it snap back in place like this, or you can leave the door open and run your motor until it snaps back into place like this. 01:59 Now your door and motor are attached again and ready to operate. 02:03 [R&S logo displays on a white background. Automatic Gate Stuck Open
Sid demonstrates how to realign the photo sensor on an automatic gate. Transcript 00:00 [Music plays over scenes of R&S employees performing various tasks.] 00:08 Hi, I'm Sid, with R&S in the gate division. 00:11 Some of our common problems that a customer might come across is your gate being stuck open. 00:15 Sometimes, this can be something as simple as just your photo eye that's not in alignment. 00:19 With this one, we're going to use the LA 500 to demonstrate and show you the difference in the color change. 00:24 Right now, when I hit my remote to close the date, there's a red indicator light showing that we have an obstruction. 00:32 If we look over at our beam, we can see that there is no obstruction. 00:37 So, one of the minor adjustments we could potentially do is realign it, and now we have a blue indicator light. 00:43 When we hit our remote again, now we have our gate closing. 00:49 In closing, this was a demonstration of doing it yourself and saving a service call. 00:53 [R&S logo displays on a white background.
